"I like to think of myself as being a fairly active kid. I danced, I played, I socialized like kids do. But often, there were reactions my body had in response to exercise just weren’t quite right or weren’t happening to my friends as well. I was finally diagnosed with dysautonomia in 2017.
When you are newly diagnosed with a chronic illness or some sort of chronic pain disorder, the advice nearly all doctors say it is to ‘just keep moving.
Initially, I was so overwhelmed with all the adjustments and training I had to complete in order to move the same way other people did. I struggled drastically with the concept that movement was not trying to keep up with my athlete friends but was about listening to my body and figuring out what it was telling me. While my movement is never going to look the same as the person next to me, I feel as if the team of specialists, nutrition coaches, personal trainers, physical therapists, and other personal support systems I had helped me to become the best manager of my own movement. With the right tools given, and the right knowledge learned, I no longer feel scared or intimidated to walk into a new gym, to run on a trail, to hike a mountain, or to just walk around the city with my friends. When I learned how to manage the movement that my body was able to do, my quality of life changed drastically. This realization was a turning point in both my personal life and my career. When I decided to start Managing Movement, the theme that kept resonating with me is that movement is for everybody. Whether you are an able-body or not, chronically ill or perfectly healthy, everyBODY deserves to move in the best way possible. It took countless doctors and specialists to find a set program that would progress me in the way I knew I needed, and my dream behind Managing Movement is that it brings it all to you in one. Accountability. Reliability. Nutrition coaching. Corrective exercise for pesky injuries we cannot seem to shake. Individualized personal training that supports your body and your life.
Our goal is to teach you how to move safely while preventing further injuries, how to eat to support your body’s energy needs, to understand what your body is telling you and how to respond, and to be that motivator when you can’t do it yourself."
